Combined with the WB3 meeting, a Working Block leader meeting will be held in Bari as well. This meeting will take place on April 4th 2008. On April 3rd, the attendents of the WB3 meeting and the WB leader meeting will join in a field visit to the Italian Hotspot site.

As announced during the Cape Verde general meeting we plan to have another training workshop related to Working Block 3 from March 31st until April 4th in Bari, Italy.

While in the Murcia training workshop in October 07 the focus was on WP3.1 (stakeholder workshop 1) and WP3.2 (assessment and documentation of strategies), the new training will be on WP 3.3 (selection and decision support).

We will train the participants in the use of a selection and decision support tool. The tool is supposed to be applied in each study site in a second stakeholder workshop. The outcome of the stakeholder workshop 2 will be the decision about which conservation strategy to implement during WB4.

From January 7th until January 13th the second plenary DESIRE meeting was held. The location was the Island of Santiago, Cape Verde. More than 50 scientists from all over the world joined to discuss various project topics. The meeting was opened by the director of INIDA, Isoldo Gomez and the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, Mrs. Maria Madalena Brito Neves, who held a plenary speech for te project members.
